Antique Dresden Helena Wolfsohn Demitasse Cup – Watteau Courting Scene (c. 1875)

Antique Dresden Helena Wolfsohn Demitasse Cup – Watteau Courting Scene (c. 1875)

This exquisite demitasse cup showcases hand-painted Watteau-style courting scenes alternating with vibrant florals, each panel framed by ornate gilt scrollwork and a striking turquoise-green border—quintessential Rococo revival elegance from Late Victorian Europe.
The base bears the hand-painted blue underglaze "Augustus Rex" (AR) monogram, confirming it was decorated by Helena Wolfsohn's renowned Dresden studio between 1870 and 1881, before Meissen prohibited use of the royal cipher.
Hand-painted imagery remains crisp and vibrant. The piece displays only minimal, age-appropriate shelf wear to the base rim and light rubbing to gilt accents—authentic patina consistent with 19th-century porcelain. A single chip is present; no cracks, crazing, or structural restorations.
