vintage Kutani porcelain saucer matching demitasse teacup

vintage Kutani porcelain saucer matching demitasse teacup

Vintage Kutani porcelain saucer and matching demitasse teacup, hand-painted with traditional Geisha women in colorful kimonos. The saucer features a central circular panel with a Geisha in green, surrounded by characteristic rust-red borders and intricate green and gold diaper patterns.
Both pieces exemplify early-to-mid 20th-century Japanese "eggshell porcelain" export ware—so delicately potted that light passes through the translucent walls, revealing the hand-painted imagery from inside. The design belongs to the "Geisha Ware" or Bijin-ga tradition (pictures of beautiful women), produced during the Meiji through Showa periods. Geishas are framed within decorative cartouches and hanging scroll panels, set against elaborate geometric borders, manji motifs, and floral medallions—hallmarks of refined Japanese export aesthetics from the 1900s–1950s. A charming and collectible pairing for the discerning tea service enthusiast, No stamp marks
