Vintage Moorcroft Floral Pottery Egg-Shaped Trinket
Vintage Moorcroft Floral Pottery Egg-Shaped Trinket
A rare two-piece egg-shaped trinket box by Moorcroft, circa 1930s, featuring the celebrated Anemone pattern. Bold mauve and burgundy flower heads with chartreuse centres are framed by distinctive dark tube-lined outlines against a rich teal or dark green ground.
The unglazed base bears the early block-impressed "MOORCROFT" mark with exposed reddish-brown terracotta—characteristic of pre-1928 production standards. This egg configuration is exceptionally uncommon; the Anemone design typically appears on circular dishes, ginger jars, vases, and ashtrays, making this a highly collectible crossover piece.
Evidence suggests experimental or trial production: the lid and base do not sit perfectly flush, and a small firing glaze spot is visible. These quirks, combined with the pattern rarity on this form, underscore its distinctive appeal to serious collectors of mid-century British studio pottery.
